Families First of Palm Beach County’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program is sponsored by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. Through this program many families have learned new skills and acquired the tools that help build “Stronger Families – Stronger Communities”. This is more than a “tagline”, it is a reality that is evidenced by the success of the family featured here:
Anna Murski and her family began working with Families First in April 2004. She is the mother of six children and grandmother to a little girl. Since the time of intake, the family has overcome many obstacles. Upon entrance into the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, Anna’s goals were to:
- Become employed
- Purchase reliable transportation
- Pay off debts
- Ensure her daughter finished her college education
- Purchase a home
Anna has shared her family’s accomplishments with us over the years and we are proud to share them with you:
- Anna works with the Palm Beach County School District as a full time substitute teacher
- She has purchased a reliable vehicle
- Anna has worked to restore her credit
- Her daughter graduated from PBCC in May, 2009, with honors, and is on a full-scholarship at FAU
- Anna enrolled in the IDA program through United Way of Palm Beach County, completed the program and now has a contract on a home
- She is currently enrolled at FAU working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education with an expected graduation date of fall 2010
Families First of Palm Beach County thanks the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Delray Beach Housing Authority, Palm Beach United Way, United Way of Palm Beach County and Palm Beach County Department of Community Services for their ongoing assistance to strengthen families in our community.
